Terms of Service
Last updated: April 20, 2026 · Effective: April 20, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Tether mobile app, the Tether website, and related services (collectively, the “Services”) provided by Undrift LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account or using the Services you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Tether. If you are between 13 and 18 you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms on your behalf. You are responsible for providing accurate information during signup and for keeping your login credentials secure.
2. Your account
You are responsible for all activity on your account. Notify us immediately at hello@hitpause.app if you suspect unauthorized access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, impersonate another person, or put the Service or other users at risk.
3. Acceptable use
When using Tether you agree not to:
- Break the law, infringe someone else's rights, or harass any user (including the tethers you pair with).
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to bypass the blocking or accountability mechanisms except as permitted by applicable law.
- Upload malware, probe for vulnerabilities without written authorization, or disrupt the Service.
- Use Tether to collect data about other users without their knowledge or consent.
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.
4. How Tether works (and doesn't)
Tether blocks apps and websites using Apple's Screen Time / FamilyControls framework. The effectiveness of any blocker depends on the operating system. Apple may change the behavior of these APIs at any time, and determined users can bypass any in-app block by disabling Screen Time restrictions at the OS level. Tether is a productivity and self-accountability tool, not a security control. You should not rely on it to prevent access to a device by anyone other than yourself.
The “tether” role — an accountability partner who can approve or deny unblock requests — is a social feature. Your tether is another human, not our employee. They may respond slowly, make mistakes, or stop responding. You are responsible for picking someone you trust.
5. Subscriptions and payments
Tether offers a free tier plus optional paid subscriptions. When you purchase a subscription through the App Store, your payment, renewal, and refund eligibility are handled by Apple under its standard terms. Subscriptions auto-renew until you cancel in the App Store's subscription settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges the renewal to your iTunes account. We do not see or store your payment card details.
6. User content and data
You own the content you create in Tether (your sessions, shields, profile picture, messages to tethers). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the Service. We will not use your content to train machine-learning models or to advertise to you.
7. Our intellectual property
The Tether name, logo, anchor mark, and underlying software are owned by Undrift LLC or our licensors. Except for the limited right to use the Services, nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual-property rights to you.
8. Termination
You may stop using Tether at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, engage in abuse, or expose us to legal risk. On termination your right to use the Services ends; provisions that should reasonably survive (IP ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, dispute resolution) will survive.
9. Disclaimers
The Services are provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Undrift LLC disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any blocklist will prevent access to all distracting content.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Undrift LLC, its officers, employees, or agents be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Services. Our total aggregate liability will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or USD $100, whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations on implied warranties, so some of the limitations above may not apply to you.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Undrift LLC harmless from any claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Services, your content, or your breach of these Terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute you have with us will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts, except where applicable consumer-protection law grants you a non-waivable right to sue in your home jurisdiction.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you by email or in-app banner before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
14. Apple App Store additional terms
If you downloaded Tether from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Undrift LLC, not Apple, and that Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you as a user.
